
1 Bioapproaches South West
The objective of the BioApproaches South West programme is to support the professional and business development of the Lifesciences and Health Care - bio sector in the South West of England by:
a)Providing an integrated regional focus to promote and support the South West's emerging bio sector
b)Acting as a dissemination vehicle for information and opportunities (business development and training) among the bio sectors small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), agencies and organisations in the South West
c) Coordinating networking with bio sectors in other UK regions
Highlighting research advances and novel technologies and their potential for application
d) Representing the interests of the South West Bio Sector nationally and internationally
e) Supporting the professional development of graduate-level staff (technical, research and managerial) within the bio sector
f) Raising awareness and profile of career opportunities in the bio sector in the South West
2 Business Link Devon and Cornwall
Business link for Cornwall and the isles of Scilly, Devon and Somerset
3 Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
BIS remit covers post-19 learning, boosting take up of new technologies and delivering the skills businesses need
BIS administers the Public Sector Research Exploitation (PSRE) programme.
4 National Marine Aquarium
The National Marine Aquarium was the first aquarium in the United Kingdom to be set up solely for the purpose of education, conservation and research.
5 Public Sector Research Exploitation Fund
This fund was a response to the Baker Report (August 1999) on realising the economic potential of public sector research establishments.
The Aim of the PSRE is to enable public sector research establishments to develop their capacity to exploit their science and technology potential and to provide seed funding to support the very early stages of business formation from ideas emerging out of research in the public sector science base.
The first round awards worth 10m was announced in October 2001.
Second round awards worth £15m were announced in January 16 2004
Third Round awards worth £25m were announced on January 24 2006.
A fourth round of the fund was launched on 11 December 2007. Guidelines and application forms are available on the right under related documents.
DIUS runs an annual survey of knowledge transfer activities in PSREs, copies of which are available in pdf format on the right-hand side of the screen.
6 South West Innovation Relay Centre
The Innovation Relay Centre Network assists companies and research organisations with technology transfer including help with license agreements, intellectual property management and identifying sources to finance innovation
7 South West of England Regional Development Agency
The South West of England Regional Development Agency was established in 1999. Our most important role is to ensure the long-term economic success of the region
